Orange you glad you aren’t eating an apple?
Some may say you can’t compare apples and oranges. I’m here to tell you that is absurd. We live in America, and that means we have the right to compare whatever we want, no matter who says what. Maybe you want to defy gravity, OK, you can. Forget Newton. Next, fill your bathtub all the way to the top. Then, get in it without displacing any water. Take that, Archimedes.
It’s imperative to exercise your right to compare, so shall we? Oranges are better than apples, here’s why:
Oranges contain more vitamins and minerals, and more amounts of those vitamins and minerals than apples do, with 4.3 grams of fiber, 95.8 milligrams of Vitamin C, 54 micrograms of folic acid, 405 IU of Vitamin A, 72 milligrams of calcium, and finally, 326 milligrams of potassium.
These are all essential vitamins and minerals that people must consume to live, and much higher amounts of these essential nutrients than found in apples.
Oranges are soft and juicy. Apples are hard and dry. According to Live Strong, in comparison to oranges, apples are bad for your teeth, specifically dentures and crowns. Also, when little pieces of apples get stuck in your teeth, they promote tooth decay.
More importantly, apples are high in acid with a pH ranging from 3.2 to 4.0, therefore hard on your enamel. Maybe “an apple a day keeps the doctor away,” but an apple a day will also put the dentist on speed dial. You can sink your teeth into oranges without worrying about them falling out in the process.
Furthermore, it’s the 21st century, and everything must have a pleasing aesthetic. Your car must be clean, clothes stainless and shoes polished. It’s the same thing for food. The apples you see in the store all have a layer of wax on them.
Guess what: oranges are independent, strong fruit who don’t need any wax, because they have a natural protection that shines without a layer of crayon on it. If none of the other health issues concern you, remember when you hear the crunch of the apples in your mouth that it is blanketed with same material that your kids use to draw on the walls, same stuff candles are made of, and the nasty stuff in your ear.
And let’s look at one of the most important aspects of food: taste. Oranges are delicious, and there is no better complement to a hearty meal of an omelet, sausage, and salad than fresh orange juice.
If you choose apple juice over orange juice, you have never had fresh orange juice. What’s better than a glass of apple juice? Orange juice.
Unlike apple juice, you can make your own OJ very easily, and you don’t need to add bags of sugar to make it taste good. There are very complex ways to make apple juice at home, such as this one by Mother Earth News, but the process is lengthy and difficult. When it comes to fresh OJ, all you need to do is:
- Cut the oranges in half,
- Squeeze the orange into a glass,
- Drink the fresh OJ.
Maybe you love the taste of orange juice, but you aren’t feeling the fluid consistency of juice. So there’s pulp, which adds texture. What’s more is you can choose the level of pulp you want.
Apple juice doesn’t conform to what you’re in the mood for, but orange juice does. Think about what that says about the character of apples, how self-centered and inconsiderate they are. Don’t worry, oranges are the kindest fruit there is.
What is the apple associated with? Evil. In “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” the evil witch poisons Snow White with an apple. That’s right, even Disney knows apples are evil. In the Bible, it is very vague as to which specific fruit Eve eats from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, but it is commonly thought to be an apple. In many paintings, the fruit is portrayed as an apple.
Speaking of paintings, oranges have actually been the subject of several noteworthy works of art, including “Still Life with Basket and Six Oranges” by van Gogh, a few paintings named “Still Life with Oranges” by Paul Gauguin, Piet Mondrian, and “Oranges” by Fernando Botero. Absolutely eye-friendly and evil-free.
So after all, comparing apples and oranges isn’t that hard. I mean, oranges are better for you, both in body and in spirit. So, orange you glad you are not eating an apple?
