The Panthers and Vikings played a hard-fought game on Monday night, including several battles for the ball around midfield. The defensive line, led by senior Dylan Patterson, did a good job of not allowing many clear looks at the goal, which played a part in the shutout.

Sophomore Sam Pompeo scored the first goal for the Panthers on a header near the goal with 21:36 left in the half. Both goals for the Panthers came on headers, with senior Jack Van Nimwegan scoring the other just minutes into the second half before eventually falling 5-2 to the Vikings.

The first game starts at 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, March 17 when No. 4 Duke takes on No. 13 UNC Wilmington in Providence, Rhode Island.

Football head coach Chad Phillips has compiled a 42-27 record in six seasons since becoming the head coach of the Panthers, taking the team to state playoffs three times. He won the award for Fayette County Coach of the Year after leading this year’s team to a 10-2 record and a trip to the quarterfinals of state playoffs.

Former Panther graduate Kelley O’Hara scored her first international goal for the United States women’s national team on June 30, 2015 against Germany in the semi-finals of the World Cup. The goal sealed the trip back to the finals, where the team would win 5-2 over Japan.
