The Chess Club is a student-led organization that focuses on fostering social activity and improving critical thinking skills through the game of chess.
The club does not participate in competitions, but it does help students improve their chess skills by competing amongst each other while giving them the opportunity to meet new people. No other club is built around a board game, and that adds to the appeal of the club.
The main purpose of the organization is to promote interaction between students in a unique way. Having interaction take place between members can help them build relationships and engage in very interesting, often philosophical conversations.
“It’s just fun to hang out,” sponsor Shad Genovese said. “We encourage one another, and it’s just a fun group to be with.”
