Spanish Club is dedicated to teaching students about Spanish culture, while giving all students a place to practice the language and socialize. Knowledge of the Spanish language is not required to be a member.
At each meeting, members learn about a Spanish-speaking country, Spanish culture, or Spanish traditions.
Sometimes guest speakers will speak with the members. The club also participates in Operation Christmas Child each year, taking an opportunity to give toys to children in need. “[Spanish Club] also helps the kids get involved in the community, and particularly with Spanish-speaking countries,” Thompson said.
The student officers ensure that each meeting runs smoothly, so that members can learn about Spanish culture in a fun and comfortable environment. Spanish club president senior Bryce Smith leads the discussion at most club meetings.
“I enjoy interacting with the kids and getting them excited about the culture, getting them excited about the language,” Thompson said. “They always come up with new stuff that’s interesting to me also.”
