Starr’s Mill welcomes Gabrielle Humphrey to the staff. Humphrey teaches English to Speakers of Other Languages. She has worked as an ESOL teacher and curriculum writer abroad for over ten years.
Humphrey splits her time between Rising Starr Middle School, working with sixth, seventh, and eighth graders, and Starr’s Mill, working with freshmen in math and biology.
Humphrey discovered her desire to teach while studying at the University of Texas. “I was hired as a [teacher’s assistant] to run the Spanish-language lab at a local college. The genuine desire of the students to learn Spanish is what really led me into the teaching profession,” Humphrey said.
The ESOL program involves designing creative learning opportunities for students in the four domains of reading, writing, listening and speaking. “I love working with students from all over the world in a school system that supports continued learning for teachers, so we can best meet the need for our students,” Humphrey said.
