Tim Monihan and Farmers Insurance recognize junior Sophia Olson as the 11th Player of the Week for the winter sports season.
“She plays a vital role on both sides offensively and defensively,” head coach Brandon Cerezola said. “She’s done a good job keeping our team organized. She also does a good job controlling the tempo of the game.”
Olson averages 6.0 points a game, and she is second on the team in rebounds. She also averages 6.0 assists and 5.2 rebounds per game.
“In games I always make sure to get everyone involved,” Olson said. “We practiced hard to get our first region win of the tournament. It’s been a group effort to elevate our energy, and it’s continuing to go up from here.”
The Lady Panthers finished the regular season 20-5 and second in region play with a record of 10-2. They averaged 54.4 points, 17.7 offensive rebounds, 21.9 defensive rebounds, and 12.7 steals per game.
In the region tournament semifinals last night hosted by Jonesboro High School, the Lady Panthers defeated Griffin to advance to the region championship. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. tonight.
