Tim Monihan and Farmers Insurance recognize senior and cross country runner Kate Barthel as the 13th Player of the Week for the fall sports season.
“It’s honestly 100% mental and you have to be positive and you have to be consistent with your work,” Barthel said. “We started in June, and we work very hard.”
Barthel finished 81st out of 148 runners at the Wendy’s Invitational in Charlotte, North Carolina. She ran a time of 21 minutes, 42.28 seconds.
“She’s one of our strongest leaders, and she showed up to summer practice consistently,” head coach Austin Enriquez said. ”She has beaten her personal record four times.”
Starr’s Mill girls cross country finished 10th out of 22 teams. The team’s highest finisher was freshman Beatrix Cooper who finished 29th.
Both cross country teams compete in the Coach Wood Invitational on October 19. Starr’s Mill hosts varsity sectionals on November 2 at One Church.
