Tim Monihan and Farmers Insurance recognize freshman defensive end Braxton Rein as the ninth Player of the Week for the fall sports season.
“[My favorite part of being on the team is] probably the brotherhood and the players,” Rein said. “I have a lot of mentors on the team, so them helping me become who I am today and teaching me a lot of life lessons. I find that it’s nice to have that connection with your teammates.”
Last week, Starr’s Mill defeated Griffin, 28-18. The Panther defense held Griffin to 167 yards of total offense. Starr’s Mill also intercepted two passes.
“Braxton has had five really good weeks for us and that’s rare with a freshman,” head coach David Cooper said. “He’s been asked a lot to step out and play on Friday nights with kids two or three years older than him and with two or more years of experience than him. He plays with a lot of effort, a 100% effort guy.”
The Panthers are currently 5-0 overall, 1-0 in region play. Starr’s Mill opponents are averaging 202.8 yards on offense and 15.8 points per game. The Panther defense is forcing an average of 2.4 turnovers per game.
Due to Hurricane Helene, Friday’s game against Mundy’s Mill has been postponed until September 30. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Panther Stadium.
