Tim Monihan and Farmers Insurance recognizes varsity basketball player Steven Barros as the 11th Player of the Week for the winter sports season.
“He affects the game in so many ways,” head coach Josh Reeves said. “We are a 20-point better team when he is out there.”
In three games last week, Barros averaged 16 points and 12 rebounds. For the season, he averaged 14 points and 21 rebounds per game.
As a senior, Barros leads on the court through his energy. When he brings energy, the rest of the team attempts to match it.
“I’ve learned to play more with my team,” Barros said. ”It’s all about teamwork.”
The varsity boys basketball season ended Wednesday night in the region tournament. After entering the tournament as the region’s second seed, the team lost to Troup County, 74-68. Troup County plays Fayette County for the region championship tonight at 8:30 p.m.
