Tim Monihan and Farmers Insurance recognize senior varsity basketball player Brooke Herdman as the sixth Player of the Week for the winter sports season.
“We chose Brooke because she has really been playing well recently,” head coach AC Atha said. “In the past four or five games she has really blossomed and she has played with a lot of confidence.”
Herdman has been an asset to her team throughout her high school career. As a senior, she has encouraged herself and her teammates to be team players and work together.
“I think in the beginning of the season I was not really focused on the team. I was kind of in my own head,” Herdman said. “As the season progressed, I have learned to work more as a system with my team.”
Herdman helped lead Starr’s Mill to a dominant win against Whitewater High School this past week. The team is currently 5-1 in region play.
“She contributes to the team in a bunch of ways,” Atha said. “She is a really great defender. She takes a lot of charges. She can go score the ball when the opportunity presents itself. She’s a great passer. She’s just an overall really great player.”
Starr’s Mill hosts Fayette County tonight at 6 p.m. The last time the two teams met, the Tigers won 59-51. Fayette County is currently first in the region and Starr’s Mill is second.
