Tim Monihan and Farmers Insurance recognize senior Carson Brownell as the fifth Player of the Week for the winter sports season.
“I want to make it to state this year,” Brownell said. “[I am] going to the gym in the morning and practicing in the afternoon, just putting my all towards it.”
Brownell was selected by head coach John Steiner because he was able to bounce back from an injury earlier this season. Steiner describes Brownell as a very determined athlete who has grown into a leader in the wrestling room.
“Carson will take time at practice to work with the younger wrestlers,” Steiner said. “He stays very calm and patient and goes over as many times as they need him to.”
Brownell wrestles in the 132 lb. weight class. He leads the team in takedowns and pins. Brownell is currently second in wins. In the most recent duals meet at the former Booth Middle School, the wrestling team was 1-1, losing to Upson Lee 36-29 and defeating McIntosh 33-27.
LaGrange hosts the area duals meet this Saturday. On February 3, Starr’s Mill hosts area traditionals.
