Brooke Godown

Player of the Week

Tim Monihan and Farmers Insurance recognize junior Brooke Godown as the fifth Player of the Week for the winter sports season.

“For the past couple of years I’ve been an underclassman and we really haven’t had a leader,” Godown said. “I feel like this year I’ve really had to step up and be the leader of the team.”

In last Friday’s 51-18 win over Cedar Grove, Godown led the team in scoring with 12 points. The Lady Panther offense exploded in the second quarter with Starr’s Mill outsourcing Cedar Grove 21-6. Starr’s Mill then held the Lady Saints scoreless in the third quarter.

“Despite all the things she brings to the floor, she also brings very many intangibles to our team,” head coach AC Atha said. “Our team constantly votes her as our team leader and she’s played really well these past four games.”

Varsity girls basketball is currently 4-2 after recent wins over Cedar Grove and Northgate. Region play begins after the holiday break.

“We have the opportunity to do really good things,” Godown said. “We’re working really hard in and out of the gym, and good things should be coming to us.”

Starr’s Mill hosts McIntosh tonight at 6 p.m. in the Panther Pit.
