Colton Olvey
Tim Monihan and Farmers Insurance recognize senior Colton Olvey as the seventh Player of the Week for the 2020-21 spring sports season.
“He is just a great example of what you want your program to look like,” head coach Chad Walker said. “He comes to practice everyday, he works hard, and he has improved every week.”
In the Friday Night Lights meet on April 2, Olvey ran the 3200-meter in 9 minutes, 38.19 seconds, dropping his personal record by 18 seconds.
“Running has taught me a lot individually and from a team standpoint like how to work hard, coming everyday, and how to get better,” Olvey said. “You can apply that to a lot of parts of life.”
Olvey now sits third in the school record books for the 3200 behind Nick Nyman who finished the event in 9 minutes and 21.60 seconds during the 2017 region meet, and Austin Enriquez who ran it in 9 minutes, and 35.14 seconds during the 2007 state meet.
“He had a great year in cross country and that’s continued to carry over into track season,” Walker said. “Hopefully he can finish strong and move on after regionals and go to the sectionals and state meets.”
Olvey’s path to state begins on April 28 when Starr’s Mill hosts the Region 2-AAAAA meet in Panther Stadium.
