Cole Bishop

Tim Monihan and Farmers Insurance have named junior defensive back Cole Bishop as the tenth player of the week of the 2019-2020 school year.

“[Bishop] has really come on here in the past couple of weeks,” head coach Chad Phillips said. “We’ve been begging for him to take more of a leadership role and to be more physical in his tackling and stuff, and he’s starting to do those things.

The defense as a whole has improved, putting up nine interceptions in seven games compared to the seven interceptions the defense managed all last season. Leading the charge is Bishop, who has already picked off four passes this season.

In the Panthers’ victory over Whitewater, the defense held Whitewater to three points. Bishop intercepted three passes en route to a 42-3 victory.

“I was just doing what the coaches coached us to do and it benefited us to win the game,” Bishop said. “If we all just do our part we can keep going forward.”

Starr’s Mill will travel to McIntosh High School for to face off against the McIntosh Chiefs in the Battle of the Bubble later today. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
