Junior varsity girls soccer team finished their season with a 10-1 win against Southeast Whitfield County. The final record for the team was 3-1-1.
“Some of the girls just really were able to work on their foot skills and their passing,” head coach Whitney Shoemaker said, “They just playing together as a team, especially like our last game. We won it 10 to nothing and they just played really well.”
During the off season, varsity head coach John Bowen will organize events for the girls to get together. Many of the girls on the team also play on club teams in the offseason where they play with and against each other.
“It’s nicer when they come in the fall, they know somebody and then it gives them that little boost to try out again. They like all kinds of just like they’ve all been there before,” said Shoemaker, “The upper class especially and could mentor but it’s also good for settling them, even the eighth graders have played with the ninth graders before, but they can also kind of get the feel for school, too.”
The eighth grade girls on the team feel more welcomed coming into school because of the relationship they developed with their teams. Knowing the underclassmen can help them to feel more comfortable, so they will be more likely to come back to the program.
While the JV season is over, the varsity girls won a region game and have an upcoming game on April 18 at McIntosh.
