January 16 was an important night for Starr’s Mill wrestlers as they recognized three seniors, Alex Dunaj, Ethan Chiumento, and Kelly Doney. These wrestlers have shown great commitment to the sport and have all sported multiple years in the program.
“The seniors have helped the younger guys grow and have shown leadership during drills and have shown them the techniques and what it takes to be a wrestler,” head coach John Steiner said.
The wrestling team has grown in number as compared to last year and that is thanks to the influx of 8th graders interested in the program.
“I help the younger guys with the moves and try to help them out,” Dunaj said.
The camaraderie between this team is incredibly strong despite the large age gap between some of these wrestlers. Leadership and commitment help build a sense of team.
Doney won his duel with great efficiency, pinning his East Coweta opponent with a near sided cradle within the first 30 seconds of the match.
Chiumento had a hard fought match against East Coweta, but was pinned in the second round.
Dunaj was unable to wrestle due to an injury.
“I wish I could be on the team longer,” Dunaj said after being asked about his last season with Panther wrestling
