The Starr’s Mill Lady Panthers earned second place while at a competition last Saturday hosted at McIntosh.
“We’re really proud of the girls because they had an injury in warm-ups, [and] we had to bring an alternate in,” head coach Jana Justice said. “They pushed through, so we’re proud of them going out there and giving it their all.”
During their warm-ups, one of the girls was injured, so the team was forced to quickly adjust the routine. Senior Mariyah Grant was put in as her replacement prior to their performance.
“I think the team did good because we had to adapt to someone getting hurt in warm up,” Grant said. “She hurt her ankle. We all had to change the routine and put me in at the last second before we competed.”
Despite the situation, the girls performed well and pushed through and were awarded a second place finish.
“I think we did good given the circumstances,” sophomore Hannah Kate Fierbaugh said. “We pulled through and worked together.”
Looking to the future, the girls seek to improve individually with each performance, where the team goal is to be awarded a better score each competition.
“We mostly worry about us and how we’re improving, so our goal is to continue to look better every single time,” assistant coach Nicole Scott said.
The girls will perform next in the region championships on November 19 at Walnut Grove.
