Starr’s Mill varsity competition cheer competed this past weekend at Whitewater High School. The Panthers placed second overall with a score of 94.5.
“It’s been a really fun season,” assistant coach Nicole Scott said. “It’s been really fun to see [the team] grow and love each other. I feel like they’re really positive with each other.”
This is the highest score cheer has achieved so far this season through four competitions. The team has two more competitions before regions.
“It’s been challenging for them just because [the coaches are] both new,” head coach Jana Justice said. “They have two new coaches and things are different, but they are handling it so well.”
Starr’s Mill cheer is a close-knit group that bonds in and out of the extracurricular and school atmosphere. That time well-spent shows on the mat. They know each other well and support one another through it all.
“From the beginning to now, I would say that we have definitely gotten a lot closer,” sophomore Kira Cantillo said. “We all do it for each other. We just push through and just work hard at practice so we can put what we want to put out when we compete.”
Both competition cheer teams will compete next at the Northgate on October 26 and at McIntosh on November 2.
