After starting the season 5-0, Varsity softball has started region play 0-2. The team’s most recent region loss came earlier this week against Central.
“It’s a new game everyday with a new team, so it’s a new opportunity. You can’t keep looking at the past. You just got to keep looking at the future,” head coach Peyton Dean said.
The Panthers scored one run in the bottom of the first inning, but Central quickly responded scoring eight runs in the top of the second.
“I’ve learned that especially in softball it’s not an individual game,” sophomore Kayla Peavyhouse said. “It’s a team game and we’re all working together for the same goal.”
Central then added on to their runs at the top of the third inning, continuing to push against Starr’s Mill’s defense. However, when the bottom of the third inning came, the Panthers scored two runs from a homerun hit to the scoreboard.
“I was just trying to be relaxed and get a good, hard hit for the team,” sophomore Callie Masson said. “I believe I can work harder though, and encourage everyone to work harder with me so that we can be a better team altogether.”
Despite the Panther’s effort, the game was wrapped up with a mercy rule in the fifth inning, 17-3. This is the second time this season the varsity team has lost by a mercy rule during a region game.
