Earlier this week, the JV softball team defeated Whitewater, 8-7.
To start the season, they are focusing on taking care of the basics to later on have them as muscle memory in the game.
“We’re taking care of the small things in practice,” coach Ashley Smith said. “In a game we can tell they are starting to notice.”
Sophomore Clio Long hit two doubles and scored two runs. One double brought home freshman Taylor Nichols.
“I think I did pretty good tonight, but I think I still have a lot of room for improvement, especially defensively,” Long said.
Freshman Caitlyn McFall pitched almost the entire game and struck out four batters. She was switched out in the top of the 4th inning after walking two Wildcat hitters. On the offensive side, McFall was able to get onto base twice.
Catcher and eighth grader Makenna Morrow batted in three runs and was walked once.
“There’s always stuff we can work on,” Morrow said. “Definitely mental stuff, too.”
Down 7-6 in the bottom of the 4th inning, freshman Campbell Hudgens got a hit that brought in the tying and game-winning runs. Starr’s Mill won 8-7.
JV softball hosts the Central Lions at 5 p.m. on August 27.
