Boys varsity soccer team lost against Holy Innocents on Tuesday. Although the boys led with a promising start and put up a fight, they were unable to secure a win against the Bears, losing 3-1.
“[The Bears] executed […] six shots on goal and scored three,” head coach Aaron Buck said. “We took a lot more than that and scored one.”
Within the first ten minutes of the game, junior Andrew Schmidt scored the first and only goal for Starr’s Mill. The Panthers had many shots at goal in the first half, but were not able to secure any more points. Although they put up a good fight, the Panthers were unable to stop the Bears from scoring their first goal.
“We’re going to fight hard games,” Schmidt said. “Next year, whenever we get into these battles, we know how to prepare for them better.”
After ten minutes, a penalty against the Panthers was called, resulting in the Bears scoring their second goal. After halftime, Holy Innocents scored one goal with the Panthers blocking them from scoring more and having multiple shots at goal.
“Even when it sucks like today, there are definitely still high moments waiting on the other side,” senior Pablo Devarez said.
The loss ends the Panther season in the AAAA quarterfinals. After winning the region, Starr’s Mill finished the season 13-4-2 overall.
“One of the hard parts about today is that we’re going to lose our senior class. They’ve been such a fantastic group for us,” Buck said. “But the guys that are all coming back, they’ll grow from [the loss]. They’ll remember this when it’s time to get other things done.”
