Last Thursday night, Starr’s Mill advanced into the second round of the state playoffs by sweeping the Hardaway Hawks 10-0, 13-0.
“We’ve got to keep grinding during our practice and playing a clean game,” senior Jack Ryan said. “We need to make good plays on the field and do all the routine things right.”
The Panthers earned a top seed for the playoffs after going undefeated in region play.
Throughout the season, pitching and fielding have been the team’s most successful attributes. During the game against Hardaway, seniors Heath Whitlock and Drew Richardson combined to hold the Hawks scoreless. In the second game, senior Jack Ryan and sophomore Brock Rein combined for the win.
“Our pitching has been outstanding all year,” head coach Brent Moseley said. “We are living with pitching.”
Heading into the next round of playoffs, the Panthers are focused on communicating during fielding.
“We make sure we’re talking to each other through everything and communicating and just playing the game together,” Rein said.
The next game will be the second round of playoffs against Benedictine High School at 5:30 p.m. on May 1. Starr’s Mill will host the double header.
