In the final week before region, the track team hosted a dual meet against Mcintosh. Due to the cancellation of a previously scheduled meet, Wednesday’s meet was the team’s last chance to finalize times and see how they compare to the closest competition.
“I decided to do a time trial for my kids [and] to bring McIntosh over because they have the timing system and it’ll give everybody an opportunity, one last chance to possibly make the regional team,” Walker said. “They’re very talented and we’ve got some talent as well. I just want them to go out and compete and have fun. Let your time and your distance take care of itself.”
Some of the top girl runners included 400 meter winner junior Emma Arnold, who finished in 1 minute, 0.52 seconds, and 800 meter winner junior Kali McQuade with a time of 2 minutes, 23.17 seconds. Junior Mia Brown earned first place in both the 200 meter and 100 meter races.
The girls defeated McIntosh 189 to 111.
“We’ve been training both physically and mentally,” Brown said. “I’ve been working very hard in preparation for this race. Getting over the obstacle of if you lose it’s okay, as long as you try your best, it’s enough. [The meet] is going to help us better ourselves and see where we’re at so we know how much we need to work for region.”
The boys top results included 1600 meter winner sophomore Nate Pacetti who finished in 4 minutes, 29.12 seconds, 800 meter winner junior Bankson Roach with a time of 1 minute, 58.31 seconds, and 200 meter runner up junior Nick Ercole completing his race in 51.32 seconds.
The boys lost to McIntosh 181.5 to 127.5.
“I got first in the 200 meter dash, a 23.8,” Ercole said. “I’ve been going to practice and just constantly doing what my coach is saying. Putting in that work just makes you better. I think this meet is a good tune up of where we stand as far as people in our area. McIntosh runs a lot like our other region teams.”
The region championships will be hosted on April 24 and 26 at Trinity.
