The tennis regular season has ended with the girls winning the region, behind senior Vaishnavi Jayakumar’s veteran leadership. The girls winning the region earned them a home bid to start the state playoffs.
“I am thrilled that the girls won the region tournament, because I feel like they worked really hard all season and we have some veteran players and I feel they deserved it,” head coach Amy Evert said. “I think they are going to be strong going into the playoffs, because we do have those veteran players. We seem to have a pretty good draw.”
The girls host Westover on April 15 at Whitewater Creek. Matches begin at 4 p.m.
The boys regular season ended with a disappointing third place finish in the region tournament. They went into the tournament as the second place team, but they lost to Whitewater in the second round. Whitewater went on to finish second behind region champion LaGrange.
“It was a little disappointing to get third. We went in as the two seed into the tournament, and we just had some things that didn’t go our way,” Evert said. “We have a little bit of a lower seed going into the playoffs, but I am hoping for good things out of them.”
The boys have a four-hour trip to Cairo on April 16 for the first round of the state playoffs. Matches begin at 1 p.m.
