South Forsyth High School defeated Starr’s Mill Panthers last Saturday. The War Eagles dominated the Panthers in the second half of the game, quickly scoring multiple goals and limiting scoring chances.
Senior Sunny McQuade led Starr’s Mill with three goals, while freshman Anna Moran and junior Sadie Gemmer each scored once. Sophomore Anna McFaddin scored once with an assist from McQuade.
South Forsyth went up 3-0 in the first half of the first quarter. Starr’s Mill worked to cut into the lead in the remaining five minutes. Moran scored to cut the lead to 3-1. Gemmer, McFaddin and McQuade also scored in the opening quarter, but the War Eagles maintained a lead, 6-4.
In the second quarter, Starr’s Mill scored once while South Forsyth scored five goals to lead 11-5 at halftime.
“We’re definitely going to have to work on communication overall, especially on defense, and on our transitions between defense and offense,” head coach Tony Kluemper said.
McQuade scored again in the third quarter, but Starr’s Mill would not score again in the game.
“We also need to work on shutting down when they have one player who really dominates, learning to shut down that player,” Kluemper said.
In the second half, South Forsyth added nine more goals to their lead. Starr’s Mill had no answer, losing to the War Eagles 20-6.
The Lady Panthers defeated Harrison Monday night but lost to Walton last night. Starr’s Mill travels to North Forsyth tonight for a 6 p.m. game.
