Senior Bo Walker’s homerun in the first inning set the tone for the Panther offense in a 6-0 win against McIntosh Wednesday night.
“We got up early in the game and just continued to hit,” Walker said. “You just come together as brothers and just produce a game.”
Walker had three hits, including two home runs, in the game. Senior Heath Whitlock contributed two hits, one of which was a home run.
Whitlock pitched the first five innings and senior Drew Richardson closed out the game. Together they gave up 10 hits and 4 walks to the Chiefs, while striking out eight batters.
“We just needed to keep the intensity high and the focus up,” Richardson said.
In the first inning, McIntosh had scoring chances but produced no runs. After Whitlock walked in the bottom of the first, Walker hit a home run to put Starr’s Mill up 2-0.
“I just had to keep going and fighting and digging deep,” Whitlock said.
In the bottom of the fifth, Walker and Whitlock hit back-to-back home runs to put Starr’s Mill up 5-0. Whitlock’s two-run home run also brought home senior Max Prozny. On the next pitch, Walker hit his second home run of the game.
“We just come together as a team,” Walker said. “Put together good bats and put together a good route in the field and try to win ball games.”
Starr’s Mill increased their lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the sixth when Killingsworth’s hit enabled sophomore courtesy runner Erik Lundstrom to score.
The Panther defense remained strong in the last two innings, giving up only one hit and one walk.
Starr’s Mill earned the sweep over the Chiefs Thursday night in an 11-4 win. The Panthers are now 7-1. They host Upson-Lee tonight at 6 p.m.
