Starr’s Mill wrestling had their area duals this past Saturday where they placed third. With a third place finish the Panthers did not qualify for state.
Duals are a team tournament where wrestlers earn points for their individual match wins but do not place separately.
“I think as a team and as the SMHS wrestling team we did the best we could out there,” sophomore Alex Lutman said. “Not the result we wanted, but we did our best.”
In all of their respective matches every senior won at least one match, propelling the Panthers to a third place finish. Sophomore David Taylor and several other underclassmen won their matches, but the team did not earn enough overall points to qualify for state.
“The duals were really close the whole time and our guys came out and performed when it mattered, but we came up short and that happens sometimes,” Taylor said.
The Panthers now turn their attention to the area traditional competition. Starr’s Mill hosts the event on Feb. 3.
