Starr’s Mill volleyball advanced to the AAAA quarterfinals after defeating Baldwin 3-0. This is the second year in a row that the Panthers have made it to the Elite 8.
“Volleyball is a quick sport. We have to adjust quickly,” head Coach Shayne Thompson said. “It’s something that we have done well.”
Over the course of three sets, the Panthers only gave up 33 points against Baldwin. During the matches, the team worked well together, making sure that each member knew what to do and setting each other up for easy points.
“We really connected as a team today,” senior Kari Smith said.
Smith led the team in kills with 16 over the three sets. Senior Hannah Thompson also led the team with four aces.
“We got to use a lot of what we’ve been working on in practice,” Hannah said.
The team advances to play Pace Academy in the state quarterfinals for the second year in a row. Pace is the reigning AAAA state champions. The best-of-5 match begins at 5:30 p.m. tonight at Pace Academy in Atlanta.
