JV Panther football played a competitive game against Northgate High School Thursday night winning 20-15 and extending their winning streak to three games.
“We knew they were 0-5, so we thought it was going to be an easy game,” sophomore Blake Turner said. “It also felt good coming out and scoring so early.”
On the first play of the game, junior Jeremiah Potter put Starr’s Mill on the board. A successful two-point conversion had the Panthers up 8-0.
“It felt great, and I’m really proud of the offensive line for blocking so well,” Potter said.
Northgate responded to bring the score back to 8-6. Starr’s Mill scored again in the second quarter to hold a 14-6 lead at halftime.
Northgate made some changes at halftime that paid off. A touchdown and a field goal had the Vikings up 15-14 before Starr’s Mill could respond.
With a few minutes left in the game, Potter scored on another run play, giving Starr’s Mill the lead 20-15. The Panthers failed to convert the two-point conversion. However, Starr’s Mill regained possession after Northgate could not handle the ensuing kickoff.
“We were surprised at how well they fought,” Turner said. “We thought it was going to be easy, but it was really a fight.”
JV football ends its season at Whitewater on October 26.
