“We need to work on our mental toughness, regardless of what goes our way and what doesn’t,” head coach Peyton Dean said.
Starr’s Mill finished 5th in the region with a 4-8 record. They beat Fayette twice and Riverdale twice. Starr’s Mill was able to put up 74 runs on the season but allowed 120 in 12 region games.
“We competed, and when we were down we didn’t give up,” Dean said.
Starr’s Mill started the season 2-2. They then dropped four games in a row before getting a win over Fayette, making them 3-6. They went on to win two more games the rest of the season giving them an overall record of 5-10 and 4-8 in the region.
Starr’s Mill finished their season on senior night with a win against Riverdale. Senior Tyanna Smith was in the program for two years and had one varsity letter. Senior Hope Delaney was in the program for five years and is the only remaining member of the 2021 state championship team.
“There are a lot of little things that come from these seniors, just attitude, effort, and leadership,” Dean said.
Starr’s Mill is an extremely young team with only two seniors and two juniors. The Panthers have three freshmen on the team, leaving plenty of room for development.
“I want to add these 8th graders next year,” Dean said.
On senior night, Smith hit an inside-the-park homerun to help the Panthers get the win. Delany had two RBIs in her final game.
“We need to get everyone to continue playing and keep building off of this year and not starting over,” Dean said.
