Varsity softball looks to capitalize on a more experienced squad as the 23-24 season begins.
“This game is a game of failure,” Dean said. “You’re going to mess up, but how we respond is going to determine us as a team.”
Last year, the team finished 4-14 overall and 4-8 in region play. The Lady Panthers missed the playoffs after having won the state championship in 2021.
Dean will look to senior Hope Delani for veteran leadership. Delani was part of the 2021 state championship team and has played on the varsity team for four years.
“She has a lot of experience, so we’re going to aid on her,” Dean said. “We’re also going to aid on her to mold those younger players who are going to be crucial parts of this program for the next four or five years.”
Sophomore Sophia Lombardo will take the circle for Starr’s Mill as the starting pitcher. Dean has a few other people in mind who can step in if need be, including junior Emma Katherine Arnold and sophomore Kimberly Palmer.
The Lady Panthers are preparing for the start of the season by focusing on their situational skills and teamwork.
After last weekend’s games were canceled, Starr’s Mill begins the regular season tonight as they host McIntosh. First pitch of the varsity game is at 7 p.m.
