Anrkum ran 18 laps. He will roll off tenth in the race later today.

“With this new configuration and the repave, everything just feels numb,” Ankrum said. “You feel like you’re really hauling the mail but you don’t feel like you’re really going that fast.”

Matt Dibenedetto finished second on the charts with a top speed of 181.289 mph and a fastest lap time of 30.581.

Third place finisher Derek Kraus had a higher top speed then Dibenedetto at 181.182 mph, but with a slightly slower lap time at 30.599. Jack Wood finished fourth place, with a top speed of 180.047 mph and a best lap time of 30.792.

Only 0.273 seconds behind first, Hailee Deegan placed fifth with a top speed of 180.000 mph and best lap time of 30.8 seconds.

Current points leader Chandler Smith finished eighth, with a fastest speed of 179.737 mph and best lap of 30.845.

“We intentionally put ourselves in bad traffic situations to see what the turbulent air would do,” Dibenedetto said. “It feels like Daytona but with more handling and a little more edginess. It’s a superspeedway and a mile-and-a-half blended together, which was exactly what [NASCAR] was going for.”

The only practice ahead of this afternoon’s race ended almost 20 minutes early after one competitor dropped oil on the track and down pit road.

This afternoon will see the Camping World Truck Series Fr8 208  at 2:30 EST.
