Farmers Insurance awarded freshman Lauren Presley from the varsity swim team as the ninth player of the week for winter sports. Presley helped lead the swim team to multiple wins at state where the girls’ team placed second overall.

“Lauren is very confident and she knows what she’s best at,” head coach Robin Huggins said. “As a freshman, she stepped up at state.”

In her first year on the Starr’s Mill team, Presley made three state times. She was the state runner up in the 100-meter breaststroke and was a member of two relays. She was also the state runner up in the 200-meter freestyle relay and won the 200-meter medley state title.

“At one point, one of the relays was behind and she caught us up and gave the girl coming up behind her a bit of an edge coming off the block,” Huggins said.

Presley is a year-round swimmer, where she competes mainly in individual events.  Swimming for the school has helped her adapt to working for a common, team goal.

“My main goal was to go out there for the team, be aggressive, earn points, and get the [win],” Presley said.
