Farmer’s Insurance has crowned senior middle linebacker Charlie Mizzell with the tenth Player of the Week award for the 2017-2018 school year.
Mizell helped out on a Panther defense that absolutely ran through Fayette County all game long, only allowing them to score 13 points. Doing so allowed them to become back-to-back region champions for the first time in school history.
“It feels good to be named player of the week after working hard all week and giving it all during the game,” Mizell said.
Starr’s Mill’s defense has certainly held its ground this season, only allowing about 20 points per game.
“[Charlie] is the quarterback of the defense, and what he does is critical to our success,” head coach Chad Phillips said.
Starr’s Mill, entering the playoffs as the No. 1 seed, will host the first round of the AAAAA GHSA state playoffs this Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at Panther Stadium against Dutchtown, the No. 4 seed.
“The fact that the region championship was on the line played a big part in motivating me for player of the week,” Mizell said.
