Senior Chas Van de Motter recently competed at the Junior Olympic National Championship May 1-5 in Portland, Ore., and finished 10th on vault and 13th on parallel bars for his age group.
“I really focused and worked my butt off for the month leading up to nationals because it was my last meet of my high school career and I didn’t want to have any regrets,” Van de Motter said.
Van de Motter advanced to nationals after finishing 17th all around at the invitation-only 2013 Region VIII Men’s Gymnastics Championship. The competition was held in early April.
Van de Motter had to place in the top 25 percent of gymnasts in his age group and competition level in order to qualify for Region VIII, which includes the states of Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, North and South Carolina, and Tennessee.
Van de Motter was also recognized at the region championship as the 2013 Georgia Men’s Gymnast of the Year.
