With only six games remaining before the state tournament, head varsity soccer coach Mike Hanie said his team is working on cleaning up their play and making fewer mistakes.
“In the first half of Friday game, we played sloppy,” Hanie said. “In the second half though, we were able to improve how we were playing and score three goals.” This resulted in a 3-1 win against Newnan (6-3).
“We were all a little tired going into the game after playing two other games this week,” senior defenseman Chandler Barnes said. “On defense we stayed tough and got the win.”
The night before was Senior Night where Barnes, Patrick Spencer, Garrett Maclauchlan, and Kyle Ulversoy were recognized. The Panther’s played Mundy’s Mill (0-6) and won 10-0. Spencer scored three goals and assisted in two others.
“It was a great night,” said Barnes, who scored two of the goals. “I got to play up top and fulfill my role as a ‘Norwegian striker’, which is what the team calls me.”
On March 19, the Panthers hosted Union Grove (7-4), who was also undefeated in Region 4-AAAAA play, and won 3-0.
“There was a great team effort on both offense and defense,” Hanie said. “We were able to pass the ball well and finish good shots on goal throughout the game.”
The Panthers’ next game is tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. at Ola High School.
