Senior captain Grant Aasen said that no matter how the team played, he is happy with a win against Northgate Friday night.
“We had a lot of issues throughout the game executing plays,” Aasen said, “but a win is a win, no matter how ugly it is.”
Even though the Panthers (2-0) outscored Northgate (0-2) 10-7, coach Jeff Schmidlkofer said he believes his team could have played better.
“We let them hang around too long and gave up too many late chances,” Schmidlkofer said.
In contrast to the Northgate game, a dominating season-opening 12-4 win against East Coweta showed some of the better characteristics of his team, Schmidlkofer said. “We played well with nice shots on offense and solid defense against a pretty good team.”
Junior forward Austin Glang scored two of the goals and assisted with two others.
“Even though we won, it could have been better,” Glang said. “Before the next game, we need to work on being more confident on offense with our passing and shots.”
The Panthers’ next home game is tonight at 7:30 against Whitewater, who are 1-2.
