During both meets this month, the cross country team decided to wear pink uniforms to support breast cancer research.
“At the meets, we have received good feedback,” head coach Diane Ruane said. “People affected by breast cancer have come up and told us they like what we are doing and appreciate the support.”
The Panther runners stood out last Wednesday at the Fayette County 5-kilometer Championships at Sandy Creek and had some of their best finishes.
Sophomore Josh Warren finished fourth overall and first on the boys’ team with a time of 17:13. Senior Nicole Chrzanowski finished eighth overall and was also first on the girls’ team with a time of 21:15. Boys’ varsity finished second and girls’ varsity finished third out of five teams.
At the ASICS Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 13, Warren finished first for boys in 41st place out of 152 runners with a time of 16:31. Chrzanowski also finished first for girls in 63rd place out of 183 runners with a time of 20:06, a new personal record.
“It felt great to accomplish my goal,” Chrzanowski said. “I have already set another and hope to accomplish it by the end of the season.”
The boys’ varsity finished 12th out of 21 teams in the championship race and the girls finished 18th out of 26 teams in their race.
“The team had a great meet against competition from all over the state,” Ruane said. “The fact that we can continue to do this well is a testament to our program.”
The Panthers’ next meet is the Region 4-AAAAA Championships 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Heritage course.
