Golden Apple – August 2020
Kelly Corallo
For the month of August, the Golden Apple recipient is English teacher Kelly Corallo. Corallo was selected by Chase Penland.
“The kids really respect her, they really look up to her,” Penland said. “She really works well with them and she is very understanding of their situation.”
In the classroom, Corallo tries to make the learning environment relaxed and enjoyable for all students. Her favorite part of teaching is working with students and seeing their perspectives on things going on in their lives.
“It’s all about building relationships with students,” Corallo said. “Making sure they know that I support them in what they are doing.”
Corallo grew up in Fayette County and graduated from McIntosh High School. She attended Georgia Southern University and graduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature, Latin, and Irish Studies.
Corallo teaches dramatic writing, 12th grade British Literature and Composition, and 10th grade Language and Composition. She is also the assistant coach for the JV girls’ soccer team. She is a Harry Potter fanatic and enjoys reading in her free time.
“Working with students helps me remember who I was, and also it’s really satisfying to know that I can be there to help them grow,” Corallo said.
Corallo receives $100 from Farmers Insurance to spend on curriculum or instruction. With the money, she is planning on getting an electric hole-puncher, an electric stapler, and Expo markers. She also receives a free large pizza from Buck’s Pizza, a gift certificate to Lisa’s Creperie in Senoia, and a free haircut from Mane Hair in Peachtree City.
