Losing a relationship is hard in itself, but losing a connection where you are only truly understood by the other person is heart wrenching. When no one else in the world recognizes you for who you really are, you are left longing for them to come back.
SZA’s “Nobody Gets Me” is a perfect representation of this theme.
She writes lyrics “Only like myself when I’m with you.” This just puts emphasis on her comfortability around that one specific person. How she cannot feel that around anyone else.
Later on in the song, a verse contains “I don’t wanna lose what’s left of you.” SZA shows how stuck she is on this particular person. The other figure is moving on, and SZA is trying to hold on for dear life.
SZA shows a little bit of jealousy throughout the song when she writes “I don’t wanna see you with anyone but me, nobody gets me like you.” Envy is flowing throughout this lyric because SZA does not want her partner to leave her for another person. Then she follows with the main chorus to once again draw attention to the peace she feels.
“Nobody Gets Me” is a good, mellow song to get out all of my feelings.
“Nobody Gets Me” is the 14th song on SZA’s “SOS” album. SZA wrote this album to signify each stage of a breakup. It is filled with songs about love, regret, sadness, yearning, hatred, and more.
The “SOS” album was released on December 9, 2022. The tracklist leads the listener through every stage of a relationship, start to finish, from the first date through the breakup. The album was such a big hit that SZA released a deluxe version called “LANA,” which is also garnering fame.
