Throughout your life you form a bond with so many people and things, and when those relationships end or are damaged there is a consistent underlying regret or jealousy. These emotions and story are demonstrated in Ariana Grande’s song “One Last Time.”
The first verse beings with Grande opening with a plea to her past relationship. She declares, “I was a liar, I gave into the fire.” Grande is admitting how she has done wrong in the relationship along with how terrible she feels for betraying their trust.
The pre-chorus shows the jealousy that has formed for her ex and his new girlfriend. She begins apologizing for how she mistreated him and explains how she was so much to her life and her mistake harmed so much of her mental health and happiness.
As the chorus begins the song picks up along with it. While the first verse and pre chorus uses only a simple beat and a drum line, Grande’s voice really picks up starting at the chorus and along with it comes more energy and detail in the background track.
“One Last Time” was released on August 22, 2014, along with Ariana Grande’s second album “My Everything.”
Grande has become famous for many reasons but originally grew up as an actress in shows such as “Victorious” and “Sam and Cat” which were shown on Nickelodeon. During this time, she released her debut album “Yours Truly” which was a massive success causing a shift from acting to a music career. Just recently Grande portrayed Glinda in the movie rendition of “Wicked.”
