It can be devastating after a break up. From trying to live without them to still having the memories of them in your head. It can hurt especially when it seems like you just cannot get over the break up and your ex has already moved on.
This is the theme for the song “That’s So True” by Gracie Abrams.
“That’s So True” is the 15th song on the “The Secret of Us (Deluxe)” album. The album continues the feeling of love and heartbreak with the varying emotions that come with the territory.
Abrams starts off the song with the lyrics “I could go and read your mind, think about your dumb face all the time, living in your glass house I’m outside.” This shows how Abrams is just not over the past relationship and is now unable to stop thinking about them.
Abrams then tries to get over them when she wrote, “You’re an idiot now I’m sure, now I’m positive, I should go and warn her.” Abrams after not being over the break up is trying to convince herself that he was not worth it and she should just move on.
Abrams talks about the breakup when she wrote, “Made it out alive but I think I lost it, said that I was fine, said it from the coffin, remember how I died when you started walking?” In these lyrics Abrams discusses how she felt after the break up saying that she lost lots of herself and made it out.
She also brings up how she convinced the people around her that she was fine even though she was struggling.
“The Secret of Us (Deluxe)” was released on October 18, 2024. All of the songs on the album address the theme of love and heartbreak. Even though the album was released recently, it has already been a big hit and is estimated to have similar sales to “The Secret of Us,” her previous album.
