Girls go through so much before, during, and after a relationship. They will lie to themselves just to make a boy happy, thinking in return they will be happy, too.
“Lie to Girls” by Sabrina Carpenter was released as the 11th track on Carpenter’s newest album “Short n’ Sweet.” This song encompasses all the toxic struggles that girls go through in relationships.
The song starts with a soft melody, talking about not swearing on your mom and lying to her. The introduction transitions to the pre-chorus about how men often manipulate women into believing they need a man, and leading them to think that they can change their partner because they want to be loved.
The lyrics “If they like you, they’ll just lie to themselves” is repeated over and over in the chorus pushing the idea that girls try to mold themselves into how they think a guy is even if it is wrong. Girls in our society are trapped in a loop trying to see the best in everyone they meet just so they can be liked and appreciated, and this idea is pushed throughout the soft outro of the song.
The song has a soft, calm mood with catchy and moving lyrics. Background vocals, guitar, and electronic synthesizers give the song its tranquil feel.
Like many of Carpenter’s songs, it has many relatable lines that have girls all around the world screaming such as, “we love to mistake butterflies for cardiac arrest.” Lots of people have related to the song just in these past few months because of how relatable it is for many girls and women who have been in toxic relationships.
Sabrina Carpenter started writing songs after getting recognition from being on the Disney Channel’s “Girl Meets World.” She has released six studio albums including “Short n’ Sweet,” multiple singles, and broke the internet with her songs “Espresso” and “Please Please Please,” both being ranked in the Billboard Top 10 2024 songs of the summer.
“Lie to Girls” is a good song when you are sad and need a good cry after a breakup, or for when you need to be reminded of how important you are.
