You feel the salty sea breeze brush your face and the sound of crashing waves reaches your ears. With the sand beneath your feet and laughter in the air, you cannot help but smile as time passes by. In Almost Monday’s new album “DIVE,” the beach is brought to the listener with its upbeat, toe-tapping tunes.
When life gets overwhelming or when difficult emotions grow too big, it is important to find a place or activity that can take those stresses away. The song “life goes by” discusses themes of moving on from heartache and appreciating the small joys in life. To escape that suffocating lost feeling, the singer loses track of time while smiling at the sun and swimming in the ocean.
Like many songs in the album, “life goes by” has an infectious, energetic melody that sticks to the listener long after hearing the song. The style of the entire album sounds like a group of friends having a blast just playing together in a garage. They sing about surf culture, friendship, and good times that others cannot help but smile about while listening.
The chorus of “life goes by” carries that message of embracing life and living in the present. Dawson Daugherty, the vocalist of the band, sings, “Yeah, life goes by on the television/ Take me to the beach ’cause I wanna dip in/The days go by and the clock is tickin/ Take me to the beach ’cause I miss the feelin” to a bouncy rhythm. Time passes anyway, so why not spend it doing something you love?
Almost Monday is an indie-rock/indie-pop trio that started out as a group of friends performing D.I.Y. gigs in the back of a surf shop. The band, consisting of Dawson Daugherty (vocalist), Luke Fabry (bass/keys), and Cole Clisby (guitar), only began releasing music in 2020. Since then, the band has received two “Top 20 on alternative radio hit” recognitions and has performed with popular artists such as AJR, Beach Weather, and The Drive Era.
Currently, the band has just over 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify and continues to gain traction after the release of “DIVE.”
You can listen to “life goes by” or the entirety of “DIVE” on all streaming platforms.
