So many people’s biggest wish is simply to be in a happy, peaceful relationship with someone they truly love and who loves and respects them as well. Unfortunately, through so many hoops, this dream is slowly becoming unachievable, and the hoops are getting smaller and smaller to find that one person.
This story of betrayal, which is as old as time, is detailed in Madison Beer’s song, “Reckless.”
The song opens with the sound of a music box cranking. The music exudes an innocent vibe which follows the song throughout its entirety. The first verse continues this innocent trend describing the song as a story of which the singer is telling her listeners, detailing how this chapter in her life pained her so horribly. She feels the necessity to share her story to people so everyone knows that their experiences and emotions are valid.
The chorus of the song shares the singer’s trauma with the relationship still lingering in her mind so long after. She says, “Each day goes by and each night, I cry/somebody saw you with her last night/You gave me your word don’t worry ‘bout her.” In the chorus along with sharing her deep memories she also reveals how betrayed she felt by his broken promises with the other mystery girl.
The post-chorus of the song repeats the mantra “how could you be so reckless” showing how she is just shocked about how someone could betray a person so horribly and play with their emotions. Finally, in the outro the singer again shares empathy with the listeners saying how much she hates this story and is sorry if anyone can relate with her.
“Reckless” was the 12th song on Madison Beer’s album “Silence Between Songs,” released on September 15, 2023. “Reckless” was the first single released from the album.
