Love is an overpowering feeling that makes us do crazy things. Some can have horrible experiences loving that causes them to struggle in their next relationship. From untrust to love, Lana Del Rey’s hit song “Cinnamon Girl” showcases it all.
“Cinnamon Girl” is the seventh song out of 14 on the hour-long album, “Norman F***ing Rockwell!” The album showcases singer Lana Del Rey going through a wide range of emotions that she feels after a hard relationship that has left her untrusting and desperate for real love. This is especially shown in “Cinnamon Girl” when she discusses the issues she faces trying to love another man after her last relationship.
She highlights some of these issues when she wrote, “There’s things I wanna say to you but I’ll just let you live. Like if you hold me without hurting me you’ll be the fist who ever did.” Rey is experiencing this love but does not want to burden the person. She is having a hard time when he shows her affection since she is used to the harm her ex inflicted on her.
Rey also discusses the pain of loving someone when she wrote, “All the pills that you take. Violet, blue green, red to keep me at arms length don’t work.” Not only is the other person in the relationship struggling with a drug problem and wants to keep Rey away from his issues, but she wants to stay with him.
“Norman F***ing Rockwell!” was released on August 30, 2019. All the songs on the album have a range of meanings but tend to keep the theme of love and pain. This is Rey’s third best-selling album with over a million copies sold.
