Love stories are great, but they do not always go as planned. From friend zoning to blatantly ignoring someone, your very own story can take a sharp turn. That was the idea for Arctic Monkeys’ song “I Wanna Be Yours” from the album “AM.”
“I Wanna Be Yours” is the 12th and final song on their 42-minute album. The album features the lead singer Alex Turner, who is completely infatuated with a girl, but she is making her feelings unclear. The song “I Wanna Be Yours” shows how far Turner would go for this girl who is hiding how she feels.
Turner’s lyrics state how in love he is when he writes, “I wanna be your vacuum cleaner breathing in your dust. I wanna be your Ford Cortina. I will never rust.” Turner also repeated the phrase, “I wanna be yours” throughout the whole song.
Turner brings a deeper meaning to the verse “I wanna be your vacuum cleaner” on how he would take away all the old and bad parts of her life. This also goes for the verse “I wanna be your Ford Cortina. I will never rust.” Turner is saying that he would maintain a long-lasting love and relationship referring to the fact that he would never leave.
“AM” was released on August 1, 2013, featuring 12 songs. All of the songs on the album keep the theme of Turner’s love for a girl. This is one of Arctic Monkey’s best-selling albums with over 2 million copies sold.
