“Come A Little Closer” by Cage the Elephant
January 31, 2022
Have you ever just sat there and thought about how each and every person in the world has a different story to tell? That was how “Come a Little Closer” by Cage the Elephant was written, just by sitting there thinking.
Lead singer Matt Shultz wrote, “Come A Little Closer” inspired by one morning he woke up in a hotel room in Sao Paulo, watching the sunrise. Looking outside at the housing, he wondered how each person felt. The song was also inspired by one of Matt Shultz’s favorite books “The Shins.” Matt says the book is so sad yet so beautiful.
Cage the Elephant started with some high school friends in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Jared Champion, Matt Shultz, Brad Shultz, Lincoln Parish, and Daniel Tichenor, came together in 2006. They got their name from a fan who came up to them one night saying “you have to cage the elephant” over and over again while hugging Matt Shultz. Cage the Elephant is under the influence of alternative rock.
The album “Melophobia” came out October 3, 2013. “Melophobia” has a total of 10 songs, the most popular being “Come a Little Closer” and “Cigarette Daydreams.” “Melophobia” is the third studio album made by Cage the Elephant. This album was the last one to feature lead guitarist Lincoln Parish, soon after leaving the band due to following his passion for producing.
If looking for songs just to vibe to then Cage the Elephant is the way to go. Each song produced by Cage the Elephant has a story of its own. Which makes each and every song have more meaning and expression to others.
