English teacher and journalism advisor Justin Spencer is currently listening to “Peace” by O.A.R.
“The song has sort of a cool jam-band vibe, which is fun,” Spencer said. “It is a feel-good song and a feel-good band.”
“Peace” by O.A.R. is a soft, alternative indie rock song that describes the main vocalist’s feelings toward his person. As the title suggests, the song is a peaceful lyrical piece about ultimately wanting peace and comfort with his person, a message that everyone can relate to in their own ways.
The song starts with a melodic guitar solo, layering more instruments as it progresses while still keeping the tone gentle. Lead vocalist and guitarist Marc Roberge sings about a love that seems distant, but he wants to grow closer, as seen in the repeating lyric of “I want love, I want us, I want peace.”
“Peace” is a part of the band’s LP, “The Rockville LP,” released June 10, 2014. The song quickly gained popularity for its catchy repeating rhythm and lyrics, and the message behind it. O.A.R. formed in Rockville, Maryland, in 1994 and has been releasing albums and touring since.
“We live in this hectic world, and one thing that we are all really looking for is a sense of peace and comfort,” Spencer said. “The song is a good reminder of that.”
O.A.R. will be performing at the Brookhaven Cherry Blossom Festival on March 29, as part of their Lost Weekend tour. “Peace” is available on all streaming platforms.
