History teacher Joshua Reeves has been listening to “Father and Son” by Cat Stevens.
“I like the message in it, especially what it’s about,” Reeves said.
“Father And Son” is a folk indie song, telling a story of a father and his son. They both are going their separate ways in life without necessarily understanding the reasons why. The story has this melancholy feel, the beginning having a guitar solo that sets the tone for the rest of the song.
“[Cat Stevens] was a phenomenal artist,” Reeves said.
Cat Stevens made “Father and Son” for those who could not break away from those ties. He stated that “I’ve never really understood my father, but he always let me do whatever I wanted—he let me go. ‘Father And Son’ is for those people who can’t break loose,” according to an interview from “Disc.”
He released the song in the album “Tea for the Tillerman” with songs like “Wild World” and “If You Want To Sing Out, Sing Out.” In 2020, at age 72, he re-recorded the songs from that album.
